Hot Sauce Review: Glenroy's Bunkum Bay Hot Sauce

Updated: Dec 3, 2019

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heat:🔥🔥🔥 On my recent visit to @broadwaydeligrocery to drop off some of our sauces I picked up a bottle of @Glenroysuk. I've seen this about a bit but couldn't find much on their website other than just that they also do BBQ and are a Londoner. A mystery!

_ 👁 The bottle is ok. Nothing out of the ordinary really. No mad design, an averagely nice font, a pastel colour scheme. Nothing either offends me or excites me about how it looks. _ 👃 Notes of salty tomatoes and savoury spice. Overall very fresh and inviting. _ 👅 Tasting this is like a little journey. It starts with fresh tomatoes and then a caramel like sweetness makes itself known. You then experience the flavour and heat of the scotch bonnet chillis, closely followed by a hit of garlic, hot but not too hot. This is all rounded off with the interesting addition of cloves, cinnamon and star anise which give the aftertaste a beautiful yet delicate sweet liquorish touch. This sauce has a lot of subtle complexity to the flavour and definitely seems to be the product of dedicated trial and error. Really impressed. _ 👭 I'd be careful what you pair this with as it's a very particular flavour. It's fresh and bright so I'd suggest giving it go with some fish tacos or of course, jerk chicken. _ 🍕 It's not the best dip as the consistency is more akin to a salsa. Lots of chunks of goodness within liquid. It pours well though, so sprinkle liberally.
