Sauce Review: Hellmann's Vegan Mayonnaise

Updated: Dec 8, 2019

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I've been doing a lot of hot sauce lately so I thought I'd mix things up and share a little treat with you. If you're vegan the wait is over, someone has finally made a mayonnaise that doesn't suck. Here's my run down of vegan @hellmannsmayonnaise!

_ 👁 I like the design more than the standard mayo if I'm honest. The font is a little more modern and I like the straight jar. It also has a really lovely silky matte blue lid which is classy but also oddly ergonomical as it helps you to grip. They've not just redesigned the sauce it seems but the whole package. _ 👃 It smells like... mayo, apart from without that slight eggy aroma. Which in some ways is an improvement. It has a citrus tang and is just a tiny bit sweet. _ 👅 Now for the real test. I often find with vegan alternatives that you lose the creaminess that's really important to white sauces like this and I was really happy to find this not lacking on that front. It's smooth and tastes authentic with a really lovely citrus zing at the end. I actually found myself using this over the bog standard mayo I had in the fridge as I preferred the texture and it was more healthy. Really impressed. It's not quite a 5 as not as rich as polish mayo, but a great effort and nicer than most. _ 👫 Mayo wants to be with everything. My favourite thing to do is mix in a little bit of harissa and make a pizza dip but this would also go in a lovely sandwich, with vegan ham and a good helping of chilli and tomato chutney. _ 🍕 It's a lovely dip. Some mayo can be almost gelatinous but this is smooth and sticky without being too thick. What a treat.
