Hot Sauce Review: Viken Shart Scorpion Hot Sauce

Updated: Dec 3, 2019

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heat:🔥🔥🔥 Aaaaand we're back with another @shartsauce1 sauce. Straight outta Viken, Sweden this is a new company. Their sauces are "Made by Vikings for chilliheads and chefs". Let's get stuck into their 'Scorpion' iteration.

_ 👁 I love the look of these sauces. The labels are good quality with delicate foiling and a great, clean design. A wise man once said to me that "branding is everything in a saturated market" and they've definitely nailed this. _ 👃 It smells of sweet paprika with a very savory and inviting undertone, mixed with the unmistakable aroma of scotch bonnets. _ 👅 It starts with a lovely sweet vinegar taste (I'd like to know what they used as it's really smooth) followed by a healthy dose of smoked paprika. The next thing you notice is the sweetnesss, it's all very fresh and light with a slow building spice, characteristic of the scorpion peppers that are used. The spice is exhilarating but not too hot, which makes this suitable as a regular table sauce. The only slight criticism is I'm not sure it needs scotch bonnets... maybe another base pepper, as their flavour doesn't seem to belong here. _ 👫 This is a great all rounder because of the smokey flavour. Have it with BBQ, have it with fajitas or as a nice addition to a chilli con carne. _ 🍕 It's an ok dip. There's a little bit of separation which is natural but it means that it doesn't adhere to things as well as perhaps a sticky fruit based sauce would. Just give it a little sprinkle!
